Bio-ETBE: Business Builds at LyondellBasell

LyondellBasell’s sales of Bio-ethyl tertiary butyl ether (Bio-ETBE), a biofuel derived from ethanol and isobutylene, which is used as an additive in gasoline, are growing "significantly," with particularly strong demand from Japan, says Willemien Terpstra, v.p./Fuels Europe and International at LyondellBasell. To meet demand growth the company says in the fourth quarter of this year that it plans to start up a new bio-ETBE unit at Channelview, TX, converted from a former methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) facility.
