Bayer Declares Force Majeure for TDI in Europe

Bayer MaterialScience has declared force majeure for toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) in Europe, Middle East and Africa, as a result of a forced reduction in TDI production at its Brunsbuettel, Germany site. Production capacity of the 135,000 m.t./year plant was substantially reduced after the company's chlor-alkali unit at the site was damaged during a massive voltage drop caused by a rapid reactor shutdown at the Kruemmel nuclear power plant close to Hamburg on July 4th.
