In addition, Bayer is also at the halfway point of a test phase for another pioneering process - known as the oxygen depolarized cathode (ODC) process - that would further reduce energy consumption in the production of chlorine. Bayer has 1.9 million m.t./year chlorine capacity, making it one of the largest producers of chlorine. It makes chlorine at four sites in Germany, one in the U.S. and one in China.
