World News and Views :: Top of the News BASF to Close Permanently Korean BDO and THF Complex7:03 AM MST | January 15, 2009 | Natasha Alperowicz BASF says it will permanently close its 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) manufacturing complex at Ulsan, Korea, which has been temporarily closed since August 2008. BASF's downstream polyTHF plant at Ulsan will continue to operate using feedstock supplied from BASF's global network. The complex employs 27 people, close to 3% of BASF's total workforce in Korea. "BASF will work closely with local labor representatives to minimize the impact of the shutdown," says Peter Schuhmacher, responsible for BASF Asia/Pacific/Intermediates. Some...
