BASF Reports Strong Results as Kurt Bock Takes the Helm

BASF reported a "powerful start to 2011" with first-quarter Ebitda advancing 28% compared with the prior-year period, to €3.4 billion ($4.98 billion) on sales 25% higher at €19.4 billion. Capacity utilization rates were "good" and, in particular, demand in the chemicals business--including chemicals, plastics, performance products, and functional solutions--increased compared with the same quarter of the previous year, the company says.
