Agrium reports sales increase on strong retail segment

Agrium today reported net earnings of $747 million for the second quarter of 2013, down 13% year-on-year (YOY), including a pretax share-based payments recovery of $30 million, pretax proxy defense costs of $12 million and a pretax loss of $3 million on natural gas and other hedge positions, the company says. Earnings per share of $5.02 beat analyst estimates of $4.94, according to Thomson Reuters (New York). Sales of $7 billion increased 4% YOY, due to an increase in retail sales and advanced technology sales, though wholesale sales decreased on lower potash...
