Nalco's Profits Rise on Volume and Pricing Gains

Nalco reported second-quarter net earnings up 3%, to $58.4 million, on sales up 8%, to $1.2 billion. Reported earnings were 42 cts/share, compared with 41 cts/share in the year-ago quarter and analysts’ consensus of 38/share, as reported by Thomson Reuters (New York). Sales rose across all divisions driven by 8% volume growth and a 3% overall increase in selling prices. A favorable foreign currency exchange rate also aided sales growth. Sales in Nalco's paper services segment rose 11%, to $211 million, on double-digit growth in the Americas. Water services...
