Wacker JV Breaks Ground on Silicon Solar Wafer Plant

Wacker Schott Solar, a joint venture between Wacker Chemie and Schott (Mainz, Germany), has broken ground on a project to build a silicon solar wafer plant at Jena, Germany. The €50-million ($73 million) first phase of the project is due for completion in April 2008. Capacity of the plant is expected to reach 100 megawatts/year by the end of 2008, the companies say.
