Uhde Awarded Huge Fertilizer Contract in Algeria

Uhde says it has been awarded a contract worth €1 billion ($1.47 billion) by Sorfert Algérie (Algiers) to build a previously announced fertilizer complex at Arzew, Algeria (CW, April 28, p. 21). Sorfert, a 51-49 joint venture between Orascom Construction Industries (Cairo) and Sonatrach (Algiers), is investing approximately $2 billion to construct the complex, which will comprise two ammonia plants each designed to produce 2,200 m.t./day, and a urea unit with a capacity of 3,450 m.t./day.
