Total plans to build petrochemical complex in Iraq

Total says it is looking to build a world-scale petrochemical complex in Iraq as part of its strategy to grow its Mideast operations. Total is already a joint venture partner in petchem manufacturing operations in Qatar and in Saudi Arabia.   Patrick Pouyanne , head of Total’s refining and chemicals division, said that he signed a preliminary agreement with Iraq’s industry ministry in November 2013 to examine the feasibility of a complex in the southern Iraqi port of Basra.
