World News and Views :: Projects Total Begins to Prequalify Contractors for Algeria Complex12:25 PM MDT | March 20, 2009 A 51-49 joint venture between Total Petrochemicals and Sonatrach (Algiers) plans to award technology and design contracts in the second half of this year for a previously announced $3-billion petrochemical complex at Arzew, Algeria, local reports say. The jv announced earlier this year that it would delay the project’s completion by two years, to 2014 (CW, Jan. 26, p. 14). The complex will be based on an ethane cracker with capacity for 1.1 million m.t./year of ethylene. Downstream units will include two polyethylene (PE) plants with combined capacity...
