Sinopec to build gas-based ethylene complex at Qingdao

Sinopec plans to invest 18.79 billion Chinese renminbi ($3.06 billion) in a gas-based ethylene complex at Qingdao, Shandong Province, according to a proposal filed with China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP; Beijing). The plant would be designed to produce 1 million m.t./year of ethylene and would take 3 years to build, the MEP statement says. It would be Sinopec’s first ethylene plant to be based on natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
