World News and Views :: Projects Shintech Starts Up Chlor-Alkali Production in Louisiana9:53 AM MDT | August 18, 2008 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Chlor-alkali production has started at Shintech’s new integrated vinyls complex near Plaquemine, LA, market sources say. This first phase of the start-up includes 300,000 electrochemical units (ECUs), a combination of chlorine and caustic soda units, as well as 300,000 m.t./year of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The second phase will add a further 300,000 m.t. of PVC and 200,000 ECUs of chlor-alkali and is expected to be online between September and year-end 2009.
