World News and Views :: Projects Shell Invests to Make Dutch Cracker More Competitive9:11 AM MDT | October 16, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Shell Nederland Chemie, a Shell subsidiary, will make a “significant investment” to strengthen the integration of its ethylene plant at Moerdijk, the Netherlands with its nearby refinery at Pernis. Shell has awarded ABB Lummus Global a contract to modify two furnaces at the Moerdijk plant to crack hydrowax that will be supplied mainly by the Pernis refinery and by other Shell refineries. Completion is due in 2009. The project will make the complex at Moerdijk one of the most competitive petrochemical complexes in Europe, says Graham van’t Hoff...
