Praxair starts up ASU in Brazil for pulp mill

Praxair says its White Martins subsidiary has started up a new air separation plant (ASU) in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The plant will supply Eldorado Celulose e Papel, the world’s largest single-line pulp factory. The unit will produce 220 m.t./day of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. Oxygen delignification is used in the pulp bleaching process and reduces active chlorine requirements, “providing significant operating cost advantages and environmental benefits,” the company says.
