Oxiteno Boosts Surfactants Capacity in Brazil

Brazilian chemical firm Oxiteno (São Paulo) says it will invest R$20 million ($11.9 million) to boost its sulfation and sulfonation capacity at São Paulo in response to rising demand in the household and personal care markets. The investment will boost Oxiteno’s total anionic surfactant capacity in Brazil by 50%, to about 19,500 m.t./year, by the second half of 2009. The deal is the latest of several recent Oxiteno investments in surfactants. Oxiteno acquired an 8,600-m.t./year sulfates and sulfonates plant at San Juan del Rio, Mexico for $4...
