Oman Backs Duqm Refinery-Petchem Scheme

Oman’s Supreme Committee for Town Planning (Muscat) has issued a tender for a masterplan that would integrate a previously announced refining and petrochemical complex in the free zone and industrial area of the coastal region of Duqm, Oman, local reports say (CW, May 2, 2007, p. 18). Jacobs Engineering has carried out a feasibility study for the complex, which would include a 300,000-bbl/day oil refinery, a 1.2-million- 1.5 million m.t./year polypropylene (PP) plant, a 2.8-million m.t./year aromatics complex, and a 750,000-m.t./year styrene unit.
