Mitsui Chemicals and Sinopec to Build Phenol and EPT Complex in China

Mitsui Chemicals and Sinopec say they have "reached a fundamental agreement" to build a world-scale phenol and acetone complex as well as an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPT) plant at Caojing, near Shanghai at an estimated cost of Y60 billion ($660 million). The two partners already operate a 120,000-m.t./year bisphenol A (BPA) plant at Caojing under their Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals (SSMC) equally owned alliance.
