Mexican researchers to build country's first pilot biodiesel plant based on cooking oil

Researchers at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM; Mexico City) are designing and building a pilot biodiesel plant that will consume used cooking oil (UCO), the university announced yesterday. The pilot plant is expected to produce about 2,000 liters/day of biodiesel to be used by Mexico City's public transport services. The transport sector accounts for 36% of the city's overall atmospheric pollution. The project is being financed jointly by the National Science and Technology Council (Mexico City) and Mexico City's municipal government...
