Methanex Shuts More Units in Chile

Methanex says it has shut down two more methanol units at its Punta Arenas, Chile site due to shortages in natural gas supplied from Argentina. A labor dispute is affecting one Argentinian natural gas supplier, and technical testing is being conducted by another, the company says.Methanex shut down its 925,000-m.t./year methanol unit, one of the four units at the Punta Arenas site, last month because of gas shortages and this unit remains down (CW, May 9, p. 51).
