La Seda Breaks Ground on Portuguese PTA Plant

La Seda de Barcelona has started construction on a previously announced project to build a 700,000-m.t./year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Sines, Portugal. Portuguese prime minister José Sócrates laid the first stone for the project at a ceremony earlier this month. The €400-million ($607 million) plant is due to be completed at the end of 2009 with commercial production scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2010.
