Japanese firms confirm plans for petchem project in Trinidad and Tobago

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) and Mitsubishi Corp. say they are in the final stages of an agreement with the government of Trinidad and Tobago and local partner, Neal & Massy Holdings (Port of Spain), to start developing a previously reported project for the commercialization of natural gas-based petrochemicals. The first phase of the project at the Union Industrial Estate, in La Brea, is expected to involve an investment of $850 million and will produce 1 million m.t./year of methanol and 100,000 m.t./year of dimethyl ether (DME).
