World News and Views :: Projects India Scraps Nayachar-Haldia PCPIR Project3:44 AM MDT | August 21, 2011 | Natasha Alperowicz The West Bengal government announced on Friday that it has scrapped a proposed Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) at Nayachar Island on environmental grounds. The government would not allow a chemical hub in the state because of threats to air and land pollution and to the livelihood of fishermen, Industry and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee told the state assembly.
