World News and Views :: Projects Dow to Close HEC Plant in Brazil by First Quarter12:54 PM MST | December 14, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Dow Wolff Cellulosics says it will close a 5,000-m.t./year hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) plant at Aratu, Brazil during first-quarter 2008, due to capacity limitations, high costs, and aging technology. The closure will affect about 40 employees, some of which will be transferred to other Dow sites, Dow says. “Rather than continuing to invest in non-competitive assets, we have chosen to shut one down, and apply resources towards the creation of next-generation products and sustainable manufacturing positions across HEC polymers and our cellulosics...
