World News and Views :: Projects Doubts Grow Over Three Ethylene JV’s in Qatar10:25 AM MDT | October 3, 2008 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Qatar Petroleum (QP) has shelved a $500-million expansion of the common seawater cooling system at the Ras Laffan, Qatar gas and petrochemical complex, according to a report in the Middle East Economic Digest (MEED). The expansion was to have supplied 1 million cu meters/hour of cooling water by 2010. QP has told contractors that the postponement is due to a lack of demand from petchem companies planning to build plants on the plots of land the expanded cooling system would have served, MEED says.
