Daelim wins contract to build butanol plant in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Butanol Co. (Sabuco), a three-way partnership among Saudi Kayan, a Sabic affiliate; Sadara, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical; and Saudi Acrylic Acid Co. (SAAC; Al Jubail), has awarded a 1.1-billion Saudi riyal ($293.3 million) contract to Daelim Industrial (Seoul) to build a previously announced butanol plant at Al Jubail. The plant will be designed to produce 330,000 m.t./year of n-butanol and 11,000 m.t./year of isobutanol. Construction is scheduled to start in January 2014, with completion expected by May 2015.
