World News and Views :: Projects CW Conference: Downturn May Delay Chinese Ethylene Projects...2:22 PM MST | November 10, 2008 | Ian Young in Shanghai The global economic slowdown and financial turbulence could cause China’s leading petrochemical producers to delay major ethylene projects, says Li Xihong, president of Sinopec’s economics and development research institute. In a presentation to CW’s 14th annual China chemical industry conference, held late last month in Shanghai, Li said that six world-scale ethylene facilities were scheduled until recently to start production in China in 2009-11.
