… Builds Specialty PC Plant in Japan

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) says it will build a plant to produce Lupizeta EP, a specialty polycarbonate (PC) resin, at the company’s Kashima, Japan complex. The unit is scheduled to begin production in March 2010. MGC will until then further develop applications and markets for the product, which is used to replace glass in optical lenses. The optical distortions of standard resins have hindered their application in high-quality cameras, spurring the development of new resins with better optical characteristics.
