Profit Recovery Continues

Chemical makers continued to post big profit gains in the third quarter. Companies cite margin expansion and volume growth as top drivers of earnings improvement. Higher selling prices are also helping to offset increases in raw material costs. Companies are also are more firmly making the case that recovery can be sustained. They  are pushing back against qualms that earnings recovery is an anomaly driven by favorable inventory or raw material swings that will soon fade.
