Has the reset started? First-quarter earnings reports were generally poor but demand stabilized or improved late in the quarter. Inventory destocking is showing signs of abating and offers some glimmers of hope for a second-half recovery in demand. The cover story this week looks at the engineering and construction (E&C) sector. Projects in Asia and the Mideast have kept major E&C firms busy through the recession, but much of that activity is expected to come to a halt later this year or early next.
