After a brisk exit from the North American packaged gases sector in 2002, Air Products is seeking a grand reentrance via a hostile takeover of Airgas. Air Products, which formally launched a hostile tender offer late last week, says that a strategic review found that packaged gases will be one of the important growth areas for Air Products, both within North America and in other regions (where it has maintained packaged gas operations).
