Nearly $10-billion in agreed deals have been announced so far this year. Yara International (Oslo), the leading global fertilizer producer, has agreed to buy competitor Terra Industries for $4.1 billion, just weeks after CF Industries Holding abandoned its hostile bid to buy Terra. Last month, mining company Vale agreed to purchase Bunge's (White Plains, NY) fertilizer assets in Brazil for $3.8 billion.
