U.S. EPA Proposes 'Significant New Use' Rule for 14 Substances

EPA has proposed Significant New Use Rule (SNUR) requirements for 14 glymes, substances that are structurally similar to glycol ethers and used in products including adhesives, printing inks, and paints and coatings. SNURs are a way for EPA to use its existing authority under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to require a company to notify the agency at least 90 days before producing, importing or processing one of the listed glymes for anything considered a “significant new use.” Comments on the proposal are due September 9.
