U.S. Congressional Budget Office tallies TSCA bill's estimated costs

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO; Washington) has released the estimated cost of complying with the Safe Chemicals Act, a measure that would overhaul the U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) proposed by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D., NJ). CBO estimates the act, assuming it is passed by year-end 2012, would cost EPA an additional 30%/year over its current TSCA enforcement budget. CBO estimates that implementing this legislation would increase EPA’s workload for regulating chemical safety by about 30%/year over the next five years...
