Groups Say BPA Ban Would Cause Industry to Pull Support for Food Safety Bill

An amendment by Senator Diane Feinstein (D., CA) that would ban bisphenol A (BPA) in food and beverage containers has caused industry groups to reconsider support for the food safety bill pending in the Senate, according to a recent letter from business groups to Senate lawmakers. The Food Safety Modernization Act has bipartisan support in the Senate but Feinstein’s BPA amendment, introduced April 20, is strongly opposed by many business groups, including ACC and National Association of Manufacturers (Washington).
