Enerkem opens Alberta waste-to-biofuels plant

Waste-to-biofuels and chemicals company Enerkem (Montreal) announced today that is has opened its first full-scale facility at Edmonton, Alberta. Enerkem president and CEO Vincent Chornet says the inauguration is "the culmination of more than 10 years of disciplined efforts to scale up [Enerkem's] technology from pilot and demonstration, to commercial scale." The plant has a production capacity of up to 38 million liters per year and will help the City of Edmonton divert 90% of the residential waste stream from landfill. It is one of the world's first...
