Canadian Assessment Finds Triclosan May Harm Freshwater Organisms

Health Canada (Ottawa) has issued a preliminary risk assessment of the antimicrobial triclosan, saying it has no evidence triclosan is harmful to human health but that “significant amounts can cause harm to the environment.” Health Canada says that it will begin discussions with industry “on the potential for voluntary reductions in the use of triclosan in products.” The proposed assessment also found “no clear link between the use of products containing triclosan and antibacterial resistance.” Health Canada says it is...
