California Governor Signs Bill to Restrict BPA in Baby Bottles, Sippy Cups

California Governor Jerry Brown (D.) has signed a bill restricting bisphenol A (BPA) in certain children’s products beginning July 2013. The restrictions will apply to bottles and cups that are designed for children under 3 years of age. It would also require manufacturers to use the least-toxic alternative substance for these products. California lawmakers passed the bill weeks ago, but it had been unclear if Brown planned to sign the bill because he had not publicized his position on the issue.
