OSHA Fines BP a Record $87 Million for Texas City Blast

OSHA says it will fine BP more than $87 million for the company’s failure to correct violations related to the 2005 Texas City accident that killed 15. A settlement agreement between OSHA and BP required the facility to make hundreds of process improvements to eliminate potential hazards. OSHA last August told BP that it was poised to miss its deadline for correcting the violations, and BP had asked the government for more time. OSHA says the $87,430,000 fine is the largest in its history. The second largest was the $21 million it levied in 2005 against BP...
