European Commission Unveils Streamlined Biocide Regulations

The European Commission today issued new rules on biocides that are expected to increase significantly the protection of human health and the environment. Biocidal products have been subject to European Union (EU) law since 1998, and the commission decided that the biocide directive's authorization processes for active substances and products should be simplified and streamlined. The new regulation becomes applicable on September 1, 2013 and makes authorization of biocidal products on the EU market less onerous, the commission says.
