EPA Orders FMC to Step Up Controls on Phosphine Gas9:05 AM MDT | June 22, 2010 | KARA SISSELL FMC must take additional steps to limit phosphine gas emissions at its former phosphate mine near Pocatello, ID, according to a unilateral administrative order EPA issued earlier this week. The site is part of the Eastern Michaud Flats Superfund site where FMC manufactured elemental phosphorus from phosphate from the late 1940’s to December 2001. EPA’s requirement builds on a 2006 consent decree ordering FMC to build a gas extraction and treatment system at the site’s capped containment ponds.
