Chinese municipal authorities criticized for delay in reporting aniline leak

The municipal government of Changzhi, China, has come under severe criticism for taking six days to report an aniline leak from a production plant operated by Tianji Coal Chemical Industry Group (Lucheng, China) that contaminated a river, leading to authorities cutting off water supplies to millions of local residents and businesses. About 9 m.t. of aniline leaked from the Tianji Coal Chemical plant and contaminated the Zhuozhang River. A further 30 m.t. of spilled aniline from the plant was contained in a disused reservoir.
