China Announces Plan to Improve Food Safety

The Chinese government has released a new plan to improve food safety regulations and to address food safety concerns. China currently has more than 2,000 national regulations on food and more than 2,900 industry-based regulations, and many of these regulations are overlapping or contradict each other, because multiple government agencies were responsible for compiling their own standards years ago, the government says.
