Chemical Safety board concludes West fertilizer investigation, testifies before Senate

The US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) has concluded its investigation of the West Fertilizer Co. explosion at West, TX plant in April that killed 14 and injured over 200. Shortly after the explosion, the plant came under criticism for its lack of safety inspections by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the EPA. The plant was found to be storing 270 tons of ammonium nitrate—1,350 times the allowable amount set by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as anhydrous ammonia.
