FDA Steps Up Review of Triclosan

FDA says it is reviewing the safety of triclosan, an ingredient found in many antibacterial consumer products, after animal studies showed the chemical alters hormone regulation. FDA also says it “does not have evidence that triclosan in antibacterial soaps and body washes provides any benefit over washing with regular soap and water.” The Soap and Detergent Association (Washington, DC) says studies prove the benefit of antibacterial soaps and body washes on human health.
