USPTO Denies Gevo Request for Review in Patent Dispute with Butamax

Biobased isobutanol firm Gevo (Englewood, CA) says the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPOT) has denied its August 18, 2011 request to reexamine a patent issued to its competitor, Butamax Advanced Biofuel (Wilmington, DE), related to isobutanol production technology, but says the decision does not affect previously filed patent infringement disputes between the two. “We are disappointed in the USPTO’s decision not to reexamine this particular patent, and we intend to appeal this decision” says Brett Lund, Gevo Executive Vice President and...
