US officials finalize changes to annual soot standard2:15 PM MST | December 17, 2012 | Kara Sissell US EPA has finalized changes to annual requirements for reducing fine particles (PM 2.5), or soot, from the prior 15 micrograms/cubic meter (mg/cu meter), to 12 mg/cu meter. EPA's science advisory panel had recommended a standard of 11–13 mg/cu meter. The standard for daily PM 2.5 concentrations and for the coarser PM 10 standard will remain unchanged, EPA says. The revised annual standard is part of a court order to settle a lawsuit by the American Lung Association (Washington), which had filed suit to compel EPA to comply with a Clean Air Act...
