California Moves to Ban Disposable Bags3:42 PM MDT | June 7, 2010 | Nancy Seewald The California state Assembly has passed a bill that would bar certain types of stores, including grocery stores and pharmacies, from providing customers single-use paper and plastic bags, and will instead require them to charge customers for reusable bags. The law would be phased in beginning in 2012. Producers of reusable bags, meanwhile, would have to obtain government certification every two years, beginning in 2013.
