Poland Vetoes EU's Planned Route to Low-Carbon Economy

Poland at a ministerial level meeting on Friday vetoed a proposal by the European Union (EU) to introduce an 80-95% cut in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, from a baseline of 1990. Poland, which generates 90% of its electricity from burning coal, a potent source of GHG, is resisting the move on the grounds that it would damage economic growth and lead to fuel price inflation.
