House Passes Budget Blocking EPA Climate Regulations

House lawmakers passed a budget bill that includes amendments blocking EPA from regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and restricting the agency’s authority for mandating that gasoline blends contain specified amounts of renewable fuels such as ethanol. The budget and amendments are part of an effort by Congress to pass an interim budget provision by March 4, but the House bill contains measures so controversial it stands little chance of clearing the Senate or obtaining President Obama’s signature, Washington sources say.
